Our Begginings
Our funeral home founder, Obert S. "Hub" Peterson, worked for the Anderson-Peterson Funeral Home in Valley City from 1933 to 1940. Hub then opened the Hub Peterson Funeral Home in 1940. Hub and his son, Deforest Peterson, merged with Vince Olson in 1960 to form the Peterson-Olson Funeral Home. In 1985, Vince and Deforest sold a portion of their business to Allen Schuldt to form the Peterson-Schuldt Funeral Home. In 1989, Duane Johnson was added as a partner and formed the Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home. In 2002, Michael Lerud was added as a partner and formed the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home. In July, 2010, Duane Johnson left the firm to pursue interests in Denver, CO. As a result, the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home was formed. With the retirement of Allen Schuldt in 2017, Dawn Zimprich-Mathias joined the firm, and Lerud-Schudt-Mathias Funeral Home became the new name.
Although our name has changed over the years, we still strive for the personalized service on which our company was founded. Michael and Dawn will continue the legacy of Hub, Deforest, Vince, and Allen by providing the ultimate in funeral service. They are committed to family values and valuing families.
