Verlee Heinze, 80, Fargo, ND (formerly of Valley City, ND), passed away at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo on January 11, 2024. Visitation will be held at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home Chapel in Valley City on Wednesday, January 17 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm with a prayer service beginning at 5:00. The memorial mass will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 18 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Valley City. She will be laid to rest this spring at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, near Dazey, ND. Verlee Darlyne Skoglund was born to Clifford and Selma (Kusler) Skoglund on September 3, 1943. The family lived in Crosby and Minot, ND. Her father passed away in 1950, at that time, they moved to Kulm, ND where she attended school. Later, they moved to Jamestown, ND. Verlee went to Jamestown High School, graduating in 1961. Following her graduation, she attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND and began working at Kieffer Chevrolet. It was while working at the dealership, she met her future husband, Arnold Heinze.
On October 25, 1969, Verlee and Arnold were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dazey, ND. They lived and farmed until Arnold retired in 1986. They later moved into Valley City, ND. Verlee worked for a time at Ben Franklin. She furthered her education at Valley City State University and did an internship at Mercy Hospital. She retired from the hospital in 2012 and in June of 2013 they moved to Fargo, ND where Verlee cared for Arnold until he passed away in January 2016.
She had a great passion for her grandchildren. Verlee was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing projects and crafts. She did some embroidery, knitting and crocheting. She loved to do puzzles and taking day trips when she could. She belonged to the Red Hats and Catholic Daughters.
Verlee is survived by her "favorite child" (her dog), Spencer; her other children, Robert and Christine; grandchildren, Angela, Connor, A.J., Kiara, Nicholas, and Shelby; and her brother, John (Joyce) Skoglund.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her son, John.
