A celebration of Terry's life was held in the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home Chapel (Valley City, ND) at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 20. A graveside service will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City, June 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Foster Beckstrand officiating. The memorial service was live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with his obituary on his tribute page at www.lerudmathias.com. An online guestbook is available there as well.
Terrence "Terry" Nils Buringrud was born August 6, 1952, to Nils and Elaine Buringrud. He graduated from Grandin (ND) High School in 1970. While attending college, he met his future wife, Mary Kjensrud. They married on June 23, 1973. They made their home and raised their two children, Eric and Nicole, in Tower City, ND.
Terry had many passions in life including his family, teaching, and coaching. He enjoyed talking about his successes, especially while coaching the girls in Maple Valley. He really loved being around his kids and teaching them to be respectful and to become good people.
After he retired from his job at Sargent Central, Terry just couldn't stay away from the kids he enjoyed being around and accepted a job driving bus for Maple Valley School District and was looking forward to this school year.
Terry was always thinking about others before himself. Even after he was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he was making sure Mary was being taken care of. He wasn't at peace until he knew she was settled in at the Sheyenne Care Center.
He is survived by his dad, Nils Buringrud; wife, Mary; children, Eric and Nicole (Brandon) Moen; grandchildren, Breana Buringrud and Tifani Komrosky; great grandchildren, Caius, Victoria, and Penelope Williams; brother, Jon; sisters, Marcia and Wanda Hoffmann; along with many cousins and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Elaine; brother, Mike; sister, Marilyn Hein; and brother-in-law, Richard Hoffmann.
A luncheon will be held at Trestles in the Valley City Town and Country Club following the service.
