Ted Eugene Zaun of Valley City, ND entered into his eternal home  July 9, 2016 at the age of 84. A

funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 14th at St Catherine's Catholic Church.  Visitation will be held  Wednesday, July 13,  5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at St Catherine's Catholic Church and one hour before the service Thursday morning. A prayer service will be held  Wednesday at 7:00p.m. at the church.   Interment will be in St Catherine's Cemetery with full military honors.

Ted was born  July 6, 1932 in Valley City, ND to Frank and Clara (Huber) Zaun. He graduated from St Catherine's School in 1950, attended college at NDSU and served in the U.S. Army  1954-1956 stationed in Germany.  In fall 1956, he met his future wife, Elaine Heinze at the Hi-Liner Café.  Their first date was at church, followed by a quick trip to his parent's home where he introduced her to them.   When he returned home later that day he told his parents he was going to marry that girl.  Ted and Elaine were married nearly 59 years ago,  September 11 , 1957.   They farmed and raised cattle south of Valley City until 1982.  He also served as the clerk of Marsh Township, a board member of the St Catherine's Cemetery, and was a member of the Elks, Eagles, VFW and St Catherine's Church.

Ted was an avid hunter, loved playing cards, wintering in Arizona and watching basketball. He also enjoyed selling cars and golf carts, golfing, and could fix everything.  The highlight of his life was watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren interact at family gatherings.  He was always encouraging, lighthearted, had a positive attitude and had an infectious smile.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Ted was preceded in death by his youngest daughter Janelle Marie, his parents Frank and Clara Zaun, nephews Michael Heinze and Matthew Zaun, and in-laws, Mark Armbrust, Shirley Zaun, James Heinze, and Darrell "Jack" Armbrust. He is survived by his wife Elaine; daughter JoAnn (Roger) Stack of Valley City, ND; Michael (Vicki Biggs) Zaun of Gold Canyon, AZ; Teri (Tom) Hoggarth of Little Falls, MN; Kevin (Sarah Hayes) Zaun of West Fargo, ND; Michelle (Roman) Reis of Mesa, AZ; Eugena (Scott) Bring of Mesa AZ; Robert (Tami Peoples) Zaun of Grand Raids, MN; Darin (Luann Schultz) Zaun of Wahpeton, ND;  18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two due in November.  He was also survived by his brother Gerald Zaun of Fargo, ND; sister MaryAnn Armbrust of Fargo ND; brother Denis (Peggy) Zaun of Yorba Linda CA; and brother Richard (Candace) Zaun of Valley City, ND.
