Shirley Ziemba, 80, Valley City, ND passed away at her home with her children by her side while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home chapel 1:00 PM, Friday, April 28, 2023.  The service will be live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with her obituary on her tribute page at www.lerudmathias.com .  An online guestbook is available there as well.

Shirley Ann was born April 5, 1943, in Valley City, ND to Jack and Adyline (Triebold) Ziemba.  She was baptized at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Oriska, ND.  She graduated from Tower City, ND High School.

During her working years, she worked in commercial laundry, was a housekeeper at Heart of America Medical Center and a CNA at the Sheyenne Care Center.  She also did private home healthcare and companion care.

Her hobbies included Bingo, trips to the casino, an annual Medora Musical trip with Tana's family.  The competitive side of Shirley came out in her walking competition with Tana to see who reached 10,000 steps first.  She loved card games, especially Crazy Rummy, of which she did not like to lose.

Shirley is survived by her children, Tana (Jeff) Pomplun of Bismarck, ND and David Bruce of Valley City, ND; grandchildren, Peter Pomplun and Caitlin Pomplun; siblings, Dick (Judy) Ziemba, Bonnie (Richard) Sorenson and Jaci Hostetler; sister-in-law, Lenora Ziemba; and her cat, Tippy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Shelly and Sherri Ann; an infant sister, Kathleen Ziemba; brother, Jim Ziemba; and her dog, Sophie.
