Shirley V. Pederson was born on August 2, 1930 to Lloyd and Agnes (Amundson) Pederson. She attended school in Fargo before moving to Lake Park, MN. From there they moved to Tower City, ND, where her Dad farmed. She completed high school in Tower City. Shirley married Herman W.R. Koslofsky on June 21, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church. They made their home in Valley City, where Herman worked at the ND State Highway Dept. Together they were blessed with four daughters and one son. Shirley worked as a cook at the Rudolf Cafe and the Eagles, as a baker at Red Owl, and customer service at Pamida. In her spare time she enjoyed baking wedding, graduation, anniversary, and birthday cakes for many people. She was also active in church, teaching Sunday School and Bible School for 21 years. She was superintendent of the Sunday School and secretary of the board of education at Trinity. She also served on the church council while attending church at Zion in Oriska. Herman passed away on November 23, 1997. Shirley kept working at Pamida until she retired in 1999. She continued baking cakes until 2010 when she turned 80. In 1999 while she was out of town, she received a call telling her that her house was on fire. She had lived in that home for 48½ years. She was saddened by that loss for the rest of her life. She then moved to Tower City and continued on with her baking. She also spent time with a companion, George Richman, until his death July 31, 2010, after which Shirley moved back to Valley City. Anyone who knew her, knew she had the most amazing memory, remembering everybody's events, their birthdays, anniversaries, first names, middle names, you name it.
Shirley is survived by her 5 children, Kathy (Jerry) Peterson, Ottertail, MN, Janie (Rick) Larson, Bemidji, MN and Mesa, AZ, Sandy (Tom) Sheets, Mitchell, SD, Anita (Marc) Kasowski, Mesa, AZ, and Brian (Sherri) Koslofsky, Breezy Point, MN, 8 grandchildren, Jeff (Rani) Peterson, Jill (Mike) Hanson, Rob Burchill, Jeremy Burchill, Brenda (Brandon) Puetz, Bethany (Ryan) Dahl, Ryan (Jamie) Koslofsky, and Alysha (Brodie) Barrows, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lloyd and Agnes Pederson, her husband, Herman, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle and Ruth Pederson and Maurice and JoAnn Pederson, and son-in-law Bill Hendrickson.
