Mary Stevenson, 96, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 3, 2015. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Monday September 21, 2015 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr. Dennis Skonseng celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery. Mary was born on a farm in Wells County, ND. She enjoyed growing up on the farm and taught two years of school before marrying Clyde Stevenson in 1945. Together they farmed in the Sheyenne, ND area before moving to Valley City in 1957. Mary was a homemaker and worked at Mercy Hospital for many years. Clyde passed in 1990 and Mary continued to proudly live in her home until 2012 when she moved to MN. Mary enjoyed crocheting and knitting and often shared her beautiful items with family and friends. She always looked forward to her afternoon coffee with friends and the chance to share stories of her childhood. Mary is survived by five children, Joyce Schaefer, Nancy (Roger) Jensen, Bob (Patsy), Judy (William) Whillock, and Leonard (Lori); one brother, Francis (Dorothy) O'Connor; two sisters, Beatrice (Jerry) Engels and Alice Allmaras; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Waiting to greet Mary in heaven are her husband, parents, four brothers and three sisters.
