Mary "Patty" Newman, age 72, of Valley City, ND, died Sunday, March 31st at her residence surrounded by her loving family under Hospice Care.  A time of visitation and sharing with Patty's family will be held on Monday, April 8th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be in the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND.  An online guestbook will be available at www.lerudmathias.com.

Patty was born on May 4, 1952 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Mary & Frank Johnson of Carrington, ND. Being the youngest daughter of three children, Patty lived a life with many adventures and dedication to the people around her. She loved working and looked forward to retirement but soon found out that she missed working as well as visiting with customers and went back. She worked for many years at Hilltop Cafe in Valley City as well as K & S. She enjoyed friends, family, cooking, gardening and attending the sporting events of her grandchildren as well as any other activities they may have been involved in. She greatly enjoyed crafts was always looking to craft a new project. The last few years she struggled with Kidney & Heart disease. This past summer she had a stroke and it had a major impact on her life. She proved to be a strong person fighting her way through the struggles with her health over the last few years. She was a beautiful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and she will truly be missed.

She is survived by her husband Lenny Newman of Valley City, brother Doug Johnson of Omaha Nebraska, Jeff Johnson of Grand Forks, ND daughters Melonie Olson and Katie Peterson of Fargo, ND stepsons Tom Newman and Tim Newman of Valley City, ND, 7 grandchildren, Dacotah McGough, Bismarck, ND, Madison Olson, Brooklyn Olson and Averie Olson, Jada Persons, Jeffrey Persons and Breanna Peterson, all Fargo, ND;  3 great grandchildren, Ivan McGough, Laikkyn Newman and Brady Lautt.
