Marshall Garland Heitzmann was born October 5th, 1952, in Harvey, North Dakota to Theodore and Marion (Lang) Heitzmann. He passed away on June 11th, 2024, in Valley City, ND.

Marshall attended school in Harvey where he earned his GED. In 1969, Marshall began working for the Canadian Pacific Railroad.  In his younger years, Marshall loved hunting, fishing, and raising and showing hunting dogs. While starting his family, he moved from Harvey to Fingal, Oakes, Lansford, Upham, and eventually settled in Valley City.  Marshall was an extremely hard worker and retired from the railroad as a Section Forman after 43 years.

In retirement, Marshall continued his hard work cutting firewood and rekindling his fishing passion. In the last few years, leukemia did slow him down physically, but Marshall still found time to fish nearly every day that weather permitted. He was so grateful for his good friend, Steven Eckart, who made fishing possible when he couldn't physically do it alone.  While fishing took up the fair-weather days, many other times, Marshall could be found sliding pennies across his table while he talked on the phone with one of his children.

Most recently, you could find him rocking his newest grandbaby for hours.  He made sure to say that would be the most important thing he would do that day.  God and his family came first in Marshall's life. He loved his family immensely and prayed daily, by name, for each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Marshall is survived by his children Craig Heitzmann (Leah Cameron), St. Michael, MN, Leslie (Mike) Moroney, Wasilla, AK, Marshall L Heitzmann, Valley City, ND, Ashley Farkas (Rusty Loibl), Oriska, ND, Faith (Ryan) Kuhry, Valley City, ND as well as Aaron (Molly) Moritz, who he loved as his own, Fargo, ND, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, sister Sandy (James) Weinmann, Harvey, ND, and many dear nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jeffrey Heitzmann.

His funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 15 at the First Baptist Church, Valley City.  Visitation will be the hour prior to the service.  The service will be live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with his obituary on his tribute page at www.lerudmathias.com.  An online guestbook is available there as well.
