Mae Evelyn  Neumann, age 100, of Valley City, ND, died Monday, December 4th at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.â  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 11th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City.  Visitation will be held on Monday afternoon one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.

Mae Evelyn "Dolly" Ness, the daughter of Ole and Maebelle (Olson) Ness, was born May 4, 1917 in Galesburg, ND.â  She acquired her life-long nickname as an infant from her brother who thought she looked like a doll.  She grew up and attended school in several North Dakota communities, including Pillsbury and Fargo.  She later graduated from Valley City High School in 1934.â  She attended beauty school in Fargo and later business school in Billings, MT.  Dolly worked as a beautician and beauty shop owner/manager in Valley City.  Later, she owned and operated restaurants in Valley City including Dolly's Cafe. Dolly married Lester Pfaff on July 4, 1942 while he was on leave from the Army.  Lester was listed as Missing in Action in the South Pacific in 1943 and declared dead in 1944.â  She married Sam Sorenson on October 15, 1946.â  They divorced in 1954.  Dolly married Bernard Barney Neumann on January 1, 1965.  They remained together until Barney's death on April 6, 2001.

Dolly is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Puklich; two grandchildren, Blayne (Lisa) Puklich and Elyse (Dan) Ketterling; six great-grandchildren, Jackson and Parker Ketterling, and Iris, Tavie, Kira and Finnagan Ketterling.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Barney.
