Joe Dean Jongeward, 70, Valley City, ND, passed away at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND on November 6, 2023.  A celebration of his life will be held in the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, November 10 at 10:30 AM.  The service will be live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with his obituary on his tribute page at www.lerudmathias.com.  An online guestbook is available there as well.

Joe was born September 18, 1953, in Valley City, ND to Dick and Jean (McCleary) Jongeward.  He grew up in the Marion, ND area and graduated from Marion High School.  In July 1971, he enlisted in the US Navy.  He married Sandra Wolvert in 1972.  After being honorably discharged in 1973 from the Navy, they made their home in Valley City.

He worked various jobs throughout his life, he did some part time farming and electrician work, but was employed full time with TriW-G as a welder.

When he has spare time, he enjoyed golfing and being outdoors in the sunshine.  He did some woodcarving, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Jesse (Rachel); daughter, Brandi Johnson; grandchildren, Jalynn, Mya, and Brenan Anderson; step-grandson, Aidan Coyle; and his sister, Dawn Jongeward.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents as well as an infant sister, Diane.
