Obituary

Jacob Phillip (Jake) Dosch, beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, brother, friend to so many, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18.

Jake was born in Emmons County, ND, on May 24, 1931.  Jake grew up on the family farm near Strasburg, ND, and graduated from Saint Benedict's (Emmons County) High School in Strasburg in 1950.  After briefly attending Valley City State University he enlisted in the US Navy.

Jake had a 30 year career with JC Penney which took him from Bismarck to Montana, Nebraska, Colorado and then happily back to North Dakota when the family moved to Valley City in 1975.  After retiring from JC Penney in 1983 he worked in real estate for the following 31 years, retiring in December 2014.

In his 40 happy years in Valley City Jake was active in Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, V-500 at the college, REACH and Knights of Columbus at St. Catherine's Church, the Country Club, and the Barnes County Historical Society Museum.  Jake and Lucy were beloved Associates of Maryvale and loved playing cards with friends they've known through the decades.

Jake was a man of deep faith with an immense love for his family, church and community.  He enjoyed friendships and grandchildren, a love of the Knights of Columbus, North Dakota, history, postcards and puzzles.

Jake and Lucy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2015.  He is survived by his children Susan Olson (Dean), Henry, SD, Laura Nygard (Todd), Williston, ND, Sandra Fearing (Mitch), Williston, ND, Robert Dosch (Karen), Grand Forks, ND, Jerald Dosch (Dixie), Saint Paul, MN, his grandchildren Christopher, Rachel, Stuart, Mollie, Vance, Marcus, Mallory, Benjamin, Emily, Wesley, Katherine, Lauren, Ian, Aidan, Ava and Lucy, his brothers and sisters Helen, Ed, Rose, John (Jake's twin), Tony and Sally.  He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy, his parents Sebastian and Veronica (Schumacher) Dosch, and his brother Adam.

His funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine's Church on Tuesday, December 22 at 10:30 am.  Visitation will be at St. Catherine's on Monday from 5 to 7 pm.  Prayer service will be at 7 pm.  Rosary will be prayed at 6:45 for those who wish to join the family.  Burial will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Valley City immediately after the funeral. Military rites will be furnished by the ND Honors Team, AmVets Color Guard, VFW Firing Squad, the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps bugler, and the US Navy.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the ND Knights of Columbus Foundation or Catholic HeaIth Initiative Health at Home (Valley City hospice).  Donations can be mailed to Robert Dosch, 612 Plain Hills Drive, Grand Forks, 58201.
