Helen Pesek, age 93, of Ashley, ND, formerly of Valley City, ND, died Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Ashley Nursing Home, Ashley, ND. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 13th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Sanborn, ND. Helen was born August 15, 1922 at Rogers, ND daughter of Rischard and Vera (Vitalis) Ellefson. Helen had 12 brothers and sisters. After high school graduation, she moved to Minneapolis, where she worked at International Harvester making guns for WWII and also worked as a nurse aide. Helen returned to North Dakota and married Joseph Pesek in 1949. They farmed at Spiritwood, ND. She worked as a nurse aide at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown ND, Mercy Hospital Valley City, ND and Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City. Following her retirement, she lived in Valley City. In 2004, she became a resident of Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. In 2007, she transferred to the Nursing Home at Ashley ND. She enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins games, playing Skip-Bo and shopping. Her banana cream pies were enjoyed by many friends and relatives. She is survived by a daughter-in-law JaneAnn Pesek, Carbondale, PA; one daughter, Nina (Bill) Klein, Ashley ND; one son, Joe (Gloria) Pesek, Spiritwood, ND; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Gordon) Pastlewaite, Nina (Glen) Granville, and Lori Pesek all of Carbondale, PA, Heather (Doug) Nation, Harrah, OK, Jodi (Justin) Zimmer, Fort Lewis, WA, Ben (Sherri) Pesek, Spiritwood, ND, Amy (Eric) Berg , Devils Lake, ND and Joan Pesek, Devils Lake, ND; 19 great grandchildren; 2 step-greatgrandsons; one great, great grandson Brody; two sisters Lorna Hunt, Fargo ND, and Joan Vance, Henderson, NV; one brother Gary (Brenda) Ellefson, Omaha, NE; several nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Pesek Sr, a son Richard, and 9 brothers and sisters.
