Obituary

Gladys Mary Stringer, age 66, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, in Falls Church, Virginia, where she had made her home for the past 10 years with her niece, Jen (Matt) Buchanan, and their children, Elizabeth and David. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 17th at the Tower City Presbyterian Church in Tower City, ND. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City. Gladys was born on June 22, 1960, in Valley City, North Dakota, and was raised in Tower City, where she graduated from high school in 1978.

Throughout her life, Gladys called many places home, including Anacortes, Washington; Valley City, North Dakota; Helena, Arkansas; and Falls Church, Virginia. She spent much of her working life as a cook and caregiver, which suited her generous spirit and her natural desire to care for the people around her.

Gladys found great joy in cooking and baking, and sharing what she made was one of the many ways she showed her love for others. She also enjoyed sewing and was happiest when she was doing something for the people she cared about. Family was especially important to Gladys, and she treasured time spent together—whether gathered around the table playing cards and games, visiting with friends and family, or heading out on a road trip. She was always ready for an adventure and, most of all, simply enjoyed being with the people she loved.

Gladys is survived by her brother, David Stringer, and his wife, Carol; her sisters-in-law, Marie, Shirley, and Cay; and her many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Kenneth and Jeannette Stringer, and three brothers, James Stringer, Roger Stringer, and Arthur Stringer.
