Obituary

Donald Boggetto, 90, Valley City, ND died Monday, March 26, 2018 at his son Jon's home, while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  The funeral service for Don will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens near Valley City.

Donald was born in his home in South Wilmington, IL on June 8, 1927 to John and Ruth Evelyn (Gilmour) Boggetto.  He graduated from high school where he played baseball and basketball.  He followed and analyzed sports all his life.

On July 27, 1949, he married Doloris "Dee" Hanson.   They lived in South Wilmington, IL, East Grand Forks, MN, Grand Forks, ND, Lake George MN, and finally settled in Valley City, ND, where their son, Jon, lives.  They joked about moving every 10 years.

Don was a WWII veteran.  He served with the War Crimes Group in Germany in 1945.  He worked as a plasterer all his life, also plastering the homes of all his children.  Don was an avid gardener and canned the produce.  He and Jon grew grapes and made their own wine.  Some of his favorite pasttimes were sports and visiting with his friends and relatives of which there were many.

Don is survived by one brother, Alan (Judy) Boggetto; children, Jon Boggetto, Carol (Ed) Carpenter, Judy (Mark) Schroeder, and Sharon (Arnold) Pasche; a niece, Carol Pajor; 4 nephews, Rusty (Marcia) Nelson, Tom (Kathy) Nelson, Brad Boggetto, and Brian Boggetto; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife (of 68 happily married years), Dee; sister, Shirley (Russell) Nelson; sister, Carol Boggetto; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Boggetto; brother-in-law, James Hanson; and son-in-law, Kelly Dakken.
