A memorial service for Darlene R. Johnson, 88, Valley City, ND, will be held at the Sheyenne Care Center Chapel on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be later in the spring at Memory Gardens, near Valley City.

Darlene Ruth Johnson was born April 12, 1930 to Charles and Gleva (Coates) Smith in Hope, ND. She attended school in Clifford, ND.

On August 25, 1948, she married Conrad "Sonny" Johnson. They farmed east of Hope, later moving into Hope, then to Fargo, ND and finally to Valley City, ND. Darlene worked for Singer Sewing Co. and later Valley Meat Supply. Conrad died November 1, 2016. She entered the Sheyenne Care Center on October 27, 2016.

She was a long-time member of the Amvets Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary and was always there for hamburger night. She liked to sew, do puzzles and read.

Darlene passed away at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City on January 30, 2019 with her family by her side. She is survived by her five children, sons, Gary (Janice) and Greg; daughters, Ruth (Bruce) Batsch, Rose (Mark) Hatcher, and Lyla Grieger; eight grandchildren, Shelby Goodwin, Cody Johnson, Casey (Daniel) Triebold, Jodie (Erik) Nelson, Jennie (Brandon) Darby, Justin Hatcher, Nicole (Jeremy) Mesinger, Brittany (Kyle Cuypers) Grieger; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Cheryl) Smith; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Erdman and Marlys (Bill) Jacobson; a brother-in-law, Ron Knight; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Frances Olstad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and four brothers.
