Charlotte McKay, age 82, of Valley City, ND, died Monday, April 12 th at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 16 th at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City. The service will be livestreamed on Friday at www.lerudschuldt.com . Due to COVID-19, social distancing is suggested and wearing of masks is encouraged. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15 th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.
Charlotte Roberta Winter, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Haney) Winter, was born August 9, 1938 in Cannonball, ND. In 1945, Charlotte and her family moved to Getchell Prairie Township of Barnes County where her father farmed and Charlotte grew up. She attended and graduated from Noltimier High School in 1956. After her graduation, she attended Valley City State Teachers College where she received her elementary teaching certificate. Charlotte then began teaching elementary grades in Jesse, ND. On May 31, 1958, she married Russell McKay in Valley City where the couple farmed and raised their three children, William, Bruce and Michael. In 1982, she graduated from Valley City State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Charlotte was a care giver to numerous families in and around the Valley City area and also was companion to many with the Open Door Center. Charlotte was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, the women's circle and was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Charlotte was also a member of the Business and Professional Women and the Grand Prairie Homemakers Club. Charlotte led by an example of how to be a wonderful mother. Her love for children and grandchildren will radiate for generations of the Mckay family.
The McKay family would like to Thank the Staff of The Legacy Place and Sheyenne Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion given to Charlotte at both facilities.
Charlotte is survived by her three children, William (Kimberly) McKay, Valley City, ND, Bruce (Anne) McKay, Great Falls, VA and Michael (Christine) McKay, Valley City, ND; one sister, Helen Noeske, Valley City, ND; 6 Grandchildren; 3 Great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Kay Winter, Valley City, ND, Carol Winter-Bjorge, Moorhead, MN and Myra McKay, St. Charles, MN ; numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings James, Richard, William, Delores and an infant brother Joseph.
