Charleen Rae Tharaldson, age 56, passed away July 13, 2019 at her home in Dazey, ND.  She was under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, enduring a lengthy battle with renal failure.  Her partner and companion David Martin was by her side.

Charleen was born May 5, 1963 at Union Hospital in Mayville, ND, the youngest of three daughters.  As a single parent, her father, Richard Tharaldson, along with the help of caring aunts were able to have the girls spend their early years in Dazey, ND.  They eventually went into foster care and to the loving arms of Glenn and Lillian Schlotman, near Valley City, ND.

In 1969, her father married Margaret "Peggy" Young and the new family moved to south St. Paul, MN.  It was a wonderful neighborhood, full of kids with the elementary school and swimming pool nearby.  Charleen enjoyed meeting people and came to know everyone.

She moved to Washington state where she worked in the retail business.  She and David Martin met in 1980 and together made their life in the Monroe, WA area.  She truly loved gardening, working with flowers and watching her grandchildren grow up.

In 2015, Charleen and David moved to Dazey to begin life again with her cousins and friends nearby.  Her health issues limited her abilities, but she remained happy and busy.  She welcomed visitors to her home or to enjoy time on the porch.  One of her greatest joys was riding her 4-wheeler around Dazey to visit.

Charleen is survived by David; her children, Lisa, Hannah, Emma, and Mitchell; grandchildren, Adrian and Mattie; and a special great niece, Chloe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Peggy; sister, Tammy and her husband, Marvin and their little boy, Joey (1987); and her sister, Valerie Sturgis (2019).

A memorial service for Charleen will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11AM in the Dazey Assembly of God Church with Pastor Foster Beckstrand officiating.
