Catherine Blake, 100, longtime Valley City resident, passed away October 1, 2017, at Mercy Hospital. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Valley City, with Msgr. Dennis Skonseng and Deacon Ed Didier officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at which time a prayer vigil will be held, Tuesday, October 3, at Lerud-Schuldt-Mathias Funeral Home in Valley City.
Catherine Marie (Baeth) Blake was born March 26, 1917, in Content, Montana, the fourth child of Hans and Annie (Bendixson) Baeth. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Moffit, North Dakota, and then to Marion, North Dakota, where she grew up and was educated.
Catherine was united in marriage to Joseph R. Blake on October 26, 1944, and moved to Valley City where she worked as a sales clerk at Steven's Women's Wear. Upon her retirement she became a volunteer for the Nearly Nu store, a role she cherished until she moved to Bridgeview in 2009.â The parish spirit of St. Catherine's, the community life of Valley City and her devotion to her family were the treasures of her life.
Catherine was Valley City's seamstress extraordinaire. She loved her sewing and the interaction it provided with her customers.
Catherine is survived by her son, Patrick (Carolyn) Dickinson, ND; grandchildren Jaden (Mendi), Fargo, ND, and Alison (Aaron) Jones , West Fargo, ND; four great-grandchildren: Harper, Hadley and Harlow Blake and Shepherd Jones and one special great nephew, Alex Otto. Two sisters-in-law, Hjurdis Baeth of Springfield, Oregon, and Mabel Blake, Fort Townsend, Washington, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1988; her parents, Hans and Annie Baeth; and her five siblings Ray, Buster, EJ and Vern Baeth and Bernice Leehan and their spouses.
