Betty Jane Hansen, 62, Valley City, ND passed away June 13, 2023, due to complications following hip surgery.  Her funeral will be in the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, June 15 at 10:30 AM, visitation will be in the chapel starting at 9:00 AM.  The service will be live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with her obituary on her tribute page at www.lerudmathias.com.  An online guestbook is available there as well.

Betty Jane Hansen was born July 1, 1960 in Valley City, ND to Ralein and Gladys (Johnson) Hansen.  She attended Jefferson School and graduated in May of 1981.  During those years, she lived in several foster homes.  Later she lived in apartments and group homes within the Open Door Center.

She was very active in Special Olympics and had the opportunity to participate nationally and internationally, including the World Games.  She was named ND Female Athlete of the Year for Special Olympics in 1995.

Betty had many different jobs in the community and was known to be a very hard worker.  She was also a jokester and was very outgoing.

She is survived by siblings, Ray (Sherry) Hansen, Sue (Curt) Paulson, Dale (Andi) Hansen, and Les (Rochelle) Hansen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerry.
