Bartley Johnson, 87, died Tuesday, December 28, 2021at SMP Health -  St. Raphael (formerly known as the Sheyenne Care Center), Valley City, ND.  A memorial service for Bart will be held at a later date.

Bartley Durand Johnson, the son of Dewey and Lorine (Samuelson) Johnson, was born July 11, 1934 in Killdeer, ND.  The family moved to Fingal, ND and he graduated from Fingal High School.  Bart served in the US Army and returned home to the family farm in Fingal where he farmed along with his father and brother. Bart also worked as a bartender for many years, and always had a joke or a story for his many friends.

Bart was preceded in death by his parents; his long-time companion, Mary Ellen Schlagel; his brother, Don; sister, Eleanor Carpenter; and Mary Ellen's son, Gary.

Bart is survived by his nieces, Lori Carpenter, West Fargo, ND, Kim Carpenter (Sam Cohen), Minneapolis, MN; nephews, Neil (Lori) Carpenter, Lisbon, ND, Durand (Marsha) Johnson, Syracuse UT; Mary Ellen's son, Darrell (Karla) Schlagel, and their children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sheyenne Care Center and CHI Hospice for their compassionate care.
